Facing a steady decline in usage for the past several years, Yahoo has decided to shut down Yahoo Groups from 15 December. Verizon, which bought Yahoo in 2017, announced its decision on Tuesday. Yahoo has been the largest message board system of its time on the web, which is now going to end its journey later this year.

The company said in a message released on its website, "Yahoo Groups has been experiencing a steady decline in usage for the past several years. In the same period we also saw that customers want premium and reliable content. Though making such decisions It is never easy but, we sometimes have to make tough decisions about products that fit our long-term strategy. Now we will focus our attention on other areas of the business. "

The Yahoo Groups service was launched in 2001 and it could not stand up strongly against Reddit, Google Groups and Facebook Groups.

New groups will not be able to be created from October 12 and after December 15, people will not be able to send or receive mail through Yahoo Groups. The website will also not be available. However Yahoo Mail will continue to work as before.

"Emails sent and received by you will remain in your email, but it will not be possible to send and receive mail to group members from December 15," the company said.
